Another significant milestone has been reached on the Coral South floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit, which is to be located off the Mozambique coast.
We have recently installed a key component of the structure – the Turret Mooring System (TMS) – on the vessel, which is being built at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) yard in South Korea.
The 93-meter-high turret, as tall as the Statue of Liberty in New York, is a vital element of the plant as it ensures the mooring of the FLNG as well as the arrival of gas from the field and its dispatch into the unit for further processing.
The work involved precisely positioning three separate sub-system modules – the lower turret module (LTM), upper turret module (UTM) and the swivel access structure (SAS).
Christophe Page, our Joint Venture (JV) Yard Representative, said: “The installation was executed precisely within very strict tolerances of just millimeters to ensure the main functions of the Turret Mooring System (TMS).”
Florent Baglina, our JV TMS Project Manager, commented: “I’m very proud of the team members who have been able to hit this milestone despite the pandemic. We are staying focused and motivated to be ready for the FLNG’s sail away.”
Coral South is the third FLNG we have engineered and built after Shell Prelude and Petronas Satu, confirming our leadership in this market. It will operate at a depth of 2,000 meters.
