Disadvantaged women living close to our Dahej manufacturing yard are set to benefit from our latest initiative under the aegis of ‘Seed of Hope’ - the flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program of our India Business Unit.
Named Project Garima, this initiative is designed to bring dignity to local people by providing them with vocational training and opportunities to allow them to forge sustainable livelihoods.
The aim is to increase the income of 25 women by providing them with vocational training. They will be taught how to sew and stitch masks and cloth bags which will then be sold through a number of different cooperatives and other retail channels. This aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on Gender Equality (goal 5) and Decent work and Economic Growth (goal 8).
Project Garima, the word means ‘dignity’ in English, is our latest Indian CSR initiative to promote female empowerment by enabling positive changes in their lives.
Other key initiatives led by the 'Seed of Hope' program
We have helped a total of more than 20,000 girls and women through a series of impactful social initiatives. These have included providing smokeless cooking stoves for 250 women and biogas units for a further 100.
In addition, we have promoted livelihood opportunities for more than 500 women through vocational training and STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Maths). Mini Science Centers and scholarships have provided benefits for more than 19,000 girls.
